According to a recent report from Reuters, BlackBerry and the aircraft manufacturer, Boeing, are planning to release an Android-based smartphone that will be able to destroy itself.
This Boeing Black is a high-security phone that can encrypt calls, and is aimed at “government agencies and others that need to keep communications and data secure”. It features dual SIM slots, and runs on Android. The most interesting part, however, is that the phone can self-destruct in case it falls into the wrong hands. Sounds like something from a James Bond movie, don’t you think?
“We’re pleased to announce that Boeing is collaborating with BlackBerry to provide a secure mobile solution for Android devices utilizing our BES 12 platform,” said John Chen, BlackBerry’s CEO.
That’s all Chen was able to share with the public, which means that we have no further info about the phone, how the self-destructing thing will work, or how dangerous it will be for the holder. We do know that the phone is already being offered by Boeing to its partners, which means that production isn’t too far away.0
